Student Learning Outcomes
Students in the Sociology major will gain in-depth knowledge of the complexities of social life and will develop an awareness of the connections among themselves, their communities, society at large, and the global environment. Upon completion of the major, graduates will be able to:
- Analyze the role that oppression and power play in shaping a person’s identity and life experiences.
- Demonstrate professional writing and oral communication skills.
- Apply analytical and critical thinking skills to the theoretical perspectives of sociology.
- Apply sociological theory to practical experience.
- Evaluate the society in which they will perform their duties and the societal issues that contribute to and influence the work they perform.
- Assess ethical implications of decision making relevant to their discipline as well as to the distribution of justice in society.
- Model a professional code of conduct consistent with the standards of their discipline.
